There's an alarming amount of reworks being noticed in League of Legends. I suggested a while ago who was in need, and Riot has been alarmingly fast at responding to both my pleas and those of other fans. Who's being reworked? What have they said? Let us have a chat about what's going down in Riot HQ.
Why: He's just, atrocious. Not just in gameplay either – he's just a mess. His AP ratios can lend him to being a nasty midlane roamer with bursty AP damage, or his free damage and attackspeed and lifesteal can make him a damn near impossible to kill hypercarry, but virtually anyone who knows how to fight him can just shut him down with harass and kiting. There's always good stories about AD Sion doing well, but on the whole, he's just a disaster and a relic of a long-gone age. The difference between him and Tristana is Tristana is actually really terrifying lategame cause she's at range.
And the worst thing is, his current path has nothing to do with his visual/thematic design. He's supposed to be half undead and damn near invincible. It's almost as bad as Mordekaiser, who doesn't look the slighest bit like a spellcaster.
What We Know: Very little, other than what can best be described as 'radical chainsaw surgery.' He's probably going to lose a majority of his current kit, if not all – instead of being some weird super-damage who stacks HP with a shield and a stun, he's going to be an ultratank who shrugs off incredible punishment. How they're going to make him stick to targets and also do damage? Time will only tell, and Riot's not too keen on speaking out.
Why: Binary gameplay and confusing UI? Boy howdy!
Poppy is a lot of fun if you can get her ahead but Season 3 put her in a weird place. You used to be able to beef up with gold passive items, a Triforce, and huge amounts of defense to make it to midgame, upon where you'd barrel through teamfights and kill the back line. And it was great! But since S3 made everyone squishier, therefore making more kill-crazy lanes, her passive and ultimate don't have the same impact. The person you ult can probably kill you, especially if they're the carry.
What We Know: Also very little, because it might not even be beyond the planning stages – the major overhauls like her and Sion might involve total removal of their old kit and putting in a new one, similar to Evelynn. At this point, all we know is she's going to be an assassin fighter. That's about it.
Why: Old Udyr, basically. Being designed in Season 2, when junglers often had to rely on Heart and Philo and mobility was much lower, and jungle camps were far easier, Skarner was a perfect fit. He could beef up and come out swinging, getting the Shurelia's for initiations and grabbing priority targets out of fights. Now that Udyr got some nice reworks on his kit, including that sweet Bear stance boost, he's next on the list of 'dudes who run forward instead of flash', and he needs love.
What We Know:
Quite a bit! It quite literally just started a few days ago.
They're reducing a lot of his mana costs and making it so his more useless abilities (his E is terrible, his W can't initiate without help, and his Q is either a permaslow or adorably awful) actually have some power to them. His Q now does constant melee attacks and loses the slow and Crystal Energy, but instead he gains an attack speed buff. His W is more for initiating but not fleeing with a higher movespeed buff. This way he is the same tanky Q-spamming brawler he ever was, and his Q is his combat skill.
His E will now be an on-hit bonus attack that hits behind in a line, like Vi's E. This also slows (!!!) all targets hit. Meaning he now can hard-slow at range, then use Q spam to shrug cooldowns off and go back to hitting. And, again, all these changes were done yesterday, so this will probably get moved around a lot, especially since they removed the heal. This did not make Skarners happy.
Why: I love Warwick but he's just kind of all over the place. His clear times suck, even though they're pretty safe, and Lanewick is a lot of fun but just focuses on abusing CDR and Blade of the Ruined King to keep sustained and eating your opponent's health through his Q. It's basically the only way to make it work, and if you're not attacking or constantly Qing, he just dies and he doesn't even do that much damage. He just ults people.
What We Know: Not much. Morello's talked about it before, but we've only taken a few hints as to what direction will take, whenever it hits – and it will be a while. Among them, Blood Scent needs to be improved before level 6 ganks, and fixing all of his stupidly high cooldowns and damage values so he's got more to do mid-fights. Given that I usually stack CDR just to get those Q spams and frequent ults, probably a good idea. His main tool is his Q, the rest of it is auto attacking and running in circles until your cooldowns come back.
Why: He's actually the exact opposite of being 'strong' at the moment. But his goal, his entire purpose, is to harass out of lane and sustain forever, and unload ghouls at you the minute you turn to fight him. It's bitchass hard to get him out of lane, and there's very little 'counterplay.' You just let him waste his mana and hope your jungler comes up to help, or pray you counterpicked him and he didn't counterpick you.
What We Know: It's still in process but they're trying to take him out of being that ranged harass bastard and more into a poweful, undead necromancer. Xelnath once said that he asked Morello, and he said that “Yorick is THE necromancer champion.” And his new kits are designed specifically to do that – instead of summoning ghouls that just kind of swat at the enemy, he's all about raising the dead, and the new kit even has a nice Death Prophet-like ult where he swarms you with a channeled effect. But the weird thing is that there's no kit yet – he's a tricky beast to handle, and Xelnath so far has not come up with anything conclusive.
What We Know: Quite a bit! So far Xypherous has said that the new advent is to make it so they pulse cannon shots but also can fire off a piercing energy beam that's on a longer cooldown.
This is cool, but he also loses control of them and they shut down when he leaves, so his turret isn't ultrasafe permanently. And, lastly, the neat part is he can now quick setup with his ult, which slams down Frosted Flakes turrets in a hurry but robs him of the rest of his kit. How far is this from being finished? Judging by the rest of the Donger's rework time, probably quite a lot! But we still can start to see the New Donger on the Block.
Why: The kit sounds nice until you realize he's completely ult reliant. He can't kill anyone without it, and he can barely be functional with it. He can do a lot of damage in a huge area, but he lack in the same kind of power other mages have. And worse, there's no safety for him in lane. So you end up with a champ with high vulnerability in lane that offers very little lategame presence to make up for it.
What We Know: There was a beautiful time where he was getting super-stupid long range on his Locus of Power, giving him the 'sniper' feel of giving him the power to shoot through multiple targets at high damage. But they found problems, so they changed it to instead offer him area, right click nukes at range, which is also awesome.
His Q is still a line nuke, but his W is a new Arcane Barrage with a slow on a small cooldown, and his E is a skillshot missile that stuns instead of a mark you trigger. Now he can completely nuke the world, but he's not going to have the problem of the current Xerath we're saddled with. And it sounds amazing.
Why: I don't know how Rengar made it to live. He had a self-heal, an insta-gib Q, and invisibility, and no resource. Everything he did was toxic – he either instakilled you or splitpushed forever, or alternatively did absolutely nothing.
What We Know: This one has been very transparent, much like Xerath's, and Wav3break has been vocal about it. Instead of the Q-triple stab that you cannot react to, his new Empowered Savagery will grant him bonus 3 ferocity, setting him up for a second stab after using his other abilities. This is known as the “Q-train.”
With this, they can now divide up his damage and smooth it out so he doesn't just stab you in the head, and he can follow up after a stab with another stab. Or, alternatively, just not bother and use an Empowered W or E, thus giving you durability/sustain or a root to pin a target down. It's a much more fun way to do the kit that actually has, you know, counterplay.
Bone Tooth Necklace, though, they're still working on figuring out.
Viktor – Word of mouth said that Solcrushed, the Trundle rework dude, was changing some things about his kit. Among them, his Hex Core. Last word was this time last year. No idea what happened, possibly Season 3, but this one kind of vanished.
Fiora – They've mentioned it but I doubt this will actually happen, since she's in a fine spot and the most that might happen is a few changes to her Riposte. It's not exactly useful to trade off one auto-attack without the enhanced effect it might have, especially since on someone like Nasus, that's exactly what you'd think you should be able to do.
