After the last of THQ's assets were auctioned off last week, the rights to Homeworld passed to a new owner. Now we know just who that owner is: Gearbox Software.
Gearbox' CCO, Brian Martel, is a huge Homeworld fan and, according to the announcement, personally went after securing the Homeworld rights.
As a result, both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 will be coming to modern digital platforms. "Brian intends as first priority to direct Gearbox's interest to preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today's leading digital platforms."
Of course, the future of Homeworld is yet to come. DEspite some recent disappointments with Gearbox among players, it seems that this particular acquisition is special to the studio.
